SuAnn grew up on a Minnesota dairy farm, the 5th of 7 children. She grew up believing that if you worked hard, you could do anything.
She graduated from Concordia College in three years with double majors in Business Administration/Accounting and English. She had already met Randy, the young man who would become her husband (he was a big part of the reason she was in a hurry to graduate!). They married shortly thereafter and moved to North Dakota where Randy was already working as a welder. SuAnn soon realized that the open spaces of the prairie, the golden wheat fields, the oceans of blooming flax and the friendly people spoke to her soul in a new way and North Dakota became home.
SuAnn and Randy have lived in several rural communities near Wilton and experienced raising horses, beef cattle and a few sheep and pigs along the way. The horses and cows are still present but SuAnn insists that the sheep and pigs will never return.
Randy and SuAnn’s best work are their three children, Annette, Christopher and Matthew who they are proud to say are kind, skilled people who know how to take care of themselves, their families and their communities. Their family has grown to include 12 grandchildren and every one of them are, to paraphrase Garrison Keillor, ”good looking and above average!”
SuAnn is a CPA and retired from in Bismarck as a tax partner. She enjoyed the flexibility, business relationships and challenge that working as a business advisor has provided.
The values SuAnn learned as a child are still central to her today: work hard, expect much of others and even more from yourself, pray daily, do the right thing. She brings those values along with her to the North Dakota legislature.
